General Rental Information

The renter and the driver have to be in possession of a valid driving license.

Driving license printed with non Roman Alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic etc) must be complemented by an International driving license.

Please show a valid ID card or passport at time of pick up!

Age Restrictions

In Dominican Republic, the following rules apply for the minimum age and possession of a driver's license:
21 years for vehicles in groups MCMR, EDMR, EDAR, CDAR, IDAR and SDAR.
25 years for vehicles in groups SFAR, SWAR, SVAR, IFAR, PFAR and XFAR.

Maximum age in Dominican Republic is 70 years.

A Young Driver Surcharge of 10.17 USD per day applies for drivers under 25 years.

Special rental information by booking of Prepaid rates

Changing booking
A booking can be changed up to 48 hours before the start of the rental (on availability) in return for an alteration charge of 20.00 USD. Any payment already made towards the rental will not be refunded; nor shall any differential amount be refunded if this alteration leads to a lesser rental cost.

Cancellation

A booking can be cancelled before the rental begins. In the event of cancellation, the payment in advance already made towards the rental shall be paid back subject to a cancellation charge, which will be withheld and shall be in the amount of the rental charge ( including any extras and charges) for a maximum of 3 rental days. No-show
In the event that the booked vehicle is not collected or not collected at the agreed time the rental charge already paid shall be withheld in full.

Conditions of Payment

We accept all credit cards from internationally recognised credit card companies - such as American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard/Mastercard, Visa and Carte Blanche.

We do not accept any prepaid cards or debit cards (Visa Electron).

Cash and check deposits are not accepted.

Sixt CarExpress Servicecard is only accepted in combination with a valid Credit Card.

An advance charge approval is obtained for the chosen means of payment as a security. The exact deposit is determined on collection since the amount is dependent on the vehicle.

General Protection Conditions

Third Party Insurance (TI)

Protection coverage for the vehicle includes Third Party Liability with a maximum cover of 500,000.00 DOP for personal injuries (per person) and material damages. Maximum cover for personal injuries is DOP 1Mill. per insured event.

Liability coverage/Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI)

If purchased Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) protects the renter against claims made by a third party for -bodily injury- and/or property damage sustained as a result of an accident while operating a rental vehicle.

This coverage supplies Renter with third-party liability protection up to a limit of 1.000.000 USD per accident.

Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) does not cover all situations that may arise while operating a -rental vehicle-. SLI does not cover all risks. There may be exclusions for unauthorized or intoxicated drivers, no first party uninsured motorist coverage, no coverage for certain passengers in the Vehicle, and other exclusions.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) removes the drivers responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of damage.
CDW does not cover damage of tires, wheels and glasses.

In the Dominican Republic the CDW/TP is mandatory.
The protection provided by some credit cards is not sufficient.

If CDW is not accepted the customer will be held liable for the full value of the car.
If CDW is accepted, customer is only responsible for the following amounts:

Theft Protection (TP)

Theft Protection removes the drivers responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of theft.

Tyre and Windscreen Coverage (GT)

Tyre and Windscreen Coverage provides cover against the consequences of damages on tires, windscreen, side windows back window, rims, taillights, halogens, headlights, reflectors and rear view mirrors.

The cost of GT is as follows: see table

If GT is not accepted the customer will be held liable for the full value of damages on tires, windscreen, side windows, back window, rims, taillights, halogens, headlights, reflectors and rear view mirrors.
If GT is accepted, customer is only responsible for the following amounts: 0.00 USD.

Personal Accident Protection (PAP)

By taking out personal accident protection the protection can also be extended to cover the consequences of an accident.

The cost of PAP is as follows: 3,54 USD per day

By taking out PAP the limit of liability is:

The Roadside Protection covers assistance with tire repairs, refueling of vehicles on the road, loss or misplacing of keys and break downs. Spare parts, fuel and tires themselves are not included.

Refuelling Charge

All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel and should be refilled prior to return to Sixt, otherwise our current refuelling charges will apply.

Alternatively, you may purchase a tankful of fuel at the time of rental at a price that is competitive with local fuel stations and return the tank empty. No refunds will be given for unused fuel.

A Vehicle License Fee of 1.12 USD per day occurs.

Vehicle Cleaning

In case the car require a special cleaning procedure (i.e. animal hair, sand etc) after returning, a charge of 150.00 USD will apply.

Sixt cars are non-smoking cars. If a car needs additional cleaning/smell-removal caused by smoking, a fee of 200.00 USD will be added to the invoice.

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund Policy
In the event of cancellation, any deposit amounts paid at the time of booking are non-refundable. 

Disputes
If you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
